- "What you can't say" by Paul Graham (mirror)
- followed by "RE: What you can't say" (mirror)
- This is high quality writing on an issue close to my heart, whether or not I agree with Paul on the specifics
- "Of parties in general" by David Hume (mirror)
- A strong critique on where we place value in politics; its sibling essay "Of the parties of Great Britain" is out of date (by a few hundred years) and mired in the politics of the time, which appears to have allowed this essay to focus in on the key point.

Books
- "Against a Dark Background" by Iain M. Banks
- An action sci-fi novel with the most interesting background I have read to date, the implications of the setting on the world are just astounding
- "Oh, the Places You'll Go!" by Dr. Seuss (mirror)
- I was once told this was depressing, yet in my many moods I have yet to feel so
- "Steelheart (Reckoners Book 1)" by Brandon Sanderson
- I read it in just under twenty-four hours. Like Elantris, Mistborn, and The Stormlight Archive Steelheart has a strong system of 'magic' and a captivating story; very very hard to put down.

- An interesting novel, but missing the power of "Against a Dark Background".
- "The Wasp Factory" by Iain M. Banks
- A highly unusual novel, however I found it hard to finish. I like the author but would not choose to read this book again.
